La Cordonata
Perched on top of Capitoline Hill is the Michelangelo designed, and breathtakingly beautiful, Piazza del Campidoglio. The most impressive approach to the piazza is via La Cordonata, a stepped ramp that sweeps up from piazza Venezia and gently conveys its cargo in between two mammoth Roman statues of Castor and Pollux, the twin saviours of Rome, and on to the piazza. The building facing the top of the steps on the far side of the Piazza is the Palazzo Senatorio. On the left side of the piazza is the Palazzo Nuovo.
